Sri Lanka🇱🇰Failing Brakes in a Tuk-Tuk (Mirissa, Sri Lanka)

After an hour of turtle snorkeling, we climbed back into our tuk-tuk for the ride home, still feeling heroic and slightly salty. That’s when we discovered the brakes had quietly opted out of the journey.

We came flying up behind the car in front of us, realizing a bit late that slowing down was no longer part of the plan. At the last second, the driver swerved left onto the sidewalk, where we clipped a pedestrian with the side mirror. The mirror shattered, the pedestrian kept walking, and somehow we came to a complete stop.

Standing there, heart racing, I couldn’t help thinking that snorkeling in the ocean with sharks was supposed to be the dangerous part of the day.
