Brunei in 2 Days

This two-day route is built for stopover travelers and first-timers who want Brunei’s capital district without any long transfers. It moves at an easy pace with one night in the city, and everything runs on the purple public buses, B$1 water taxis and the occasional Dart ride-hail when buses thin out after dark.

Day 1: Bandar Seri Begawan Old Center

Base yourself in Bandar Seri Begawan and keep the first day on foot. Morning light suits the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque best, when its gold dome reflects in the lagoon and the marble is still cool underfoot. Day 1: Bandar Seri Begawan Old Center

Day 2: Gadong and the Muara Coast

Ride a bus out to Gadong for the Jame’ Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque, the largest in the country, with landscaped gardens and fountains around its blue-and-gold domes. From there, a Dart ride takes you to Bukit Shahbandar National Park for a morning hike over its ridges; the trails climb a series of steep wooden staircases to lookout towers over the coast. Continue northeast to Serasa Beach, the calm sheltered strip by the Muara ferry terminal, then finish at Muara Beach, a casuarina-shaded stretch where local families picnic on weekends and the sunsets face open sea. Buses connect Muara back to the city in around 45 minutes for B$1.

For a last hour before you leave, walk the riverside stalls of Tamu Kianggeh, the old market on the Kianggeh creek, where traders sell jungle ferns, sticky rice cakes and fresh betel.
