Book your Havana bed well before the festival dates, because rooms near the venues fill with visiting choirs and the best casas go first. Corhabana is in Cuba, with its main concerts in Havana and a few performances in other cities. Skip the pricey hotel packages and pay for individual concert tickets at the door. On my visit I bought a printed schedule at the venue lobby, which saved me from chasing rumors about start times. Programs shift, and late starts are normal, so don’t stack two concerts in one evening. A first day could mean settling into a casa, walking to the main hall for the schedule, and catching one evening concert.

Stay in a casa particular near Plaza Vieja or Calle Obispo. Rooms run roughly US$20 to 35, you meet other travelers at breakfast tables, and you can walk home after evening concerts through streets that are busy with people until late.
Centro Habana, just west, is cheaper at about US$15 to 25 for a room and has a more local feel. It is grittier, so take a taxi after dark and keep your phone out of sight.
