- Up-close monkey encounters — The trail earns its name: you’ll often see troops of monkeys moving through the branches above and calling from the understory. Squirrel monkeys, howlers and capuchins are the usual suspects; watching their social behaviour at dawn or late afternoon is a highlight you won’t get on a paved park path.
- Ridge viewpoint over the canopy — A short scramble takes you to a narrow lookout with layered green as far as the eye can see and river glints on the horizon. The sweeping, uninterrupted rainforest panorama (especially at sunrise or golden hour) gives a real sense of how vast the Guianan forest is compared with more manicured hiking areas.

- Giant trees and epiphyte gardens — Massive, buttressed giants—ceibas and other emergent trees—dot the route, draped in orchids, bromeliads and tangled lianas. The scale and density of those living ”houses” for other species feels more primeval than what you find on lowland coastal trails.
- Birdlife and flashes of color — The trail’s mix of edge, canopy and small clearings makes it a magnet for toucans, parrots, hummingbirds and furtive understory species. Short, bright sightings and an intense dawn chorus are far more likely here than on busier, more exposed walks.
- Stream crossings, leafcutter highways and the night chorus — Little creeks, muddy boardwalks and conspicuous columns of leafcutter ants give the hike a hands-on jungle feel. When you stay late, the nighttime soundscape—frogs, insects and distant primate calls—turns the trail into a living symphony you won’t forget.
