After 5 countries and 4 months of only Spanish love songs on poorly tuned radio stations, finally here in Honduras, it’s ENGLISH love songs. Just 3 more weeks to wait, and I’ll have Gigi d’Agostino back on my eardrums. Celebrated Willems’ birthday in the metropolis of Danli. Other than that, we haven't seen much of Honduras. We went to the Bay Islands in the Caribbean Sea, where I learned to dive (up to Advanced!). While the Caribbean makes me think of postcard-perfect weather, there turns out to be a rainy season in reality, and of course, that’s when we ended up there. But luckily, it doesn't rain underwater (or always, I'm not sure yet).
It seems I not only have to eat a lot, but my oxygen consumption is also not very efficient. Above water, oxygen is reasonably affordable, but underwater, I pay about a dollar for every breath. My dive group wasn’t really happy with me because every time we had to leave the water early since I was out of air, while the rest still had over half a tank.
Tomorrow, off to the Copan ruins of the Maya in Honduras, and the day after that, I’ll take my first steps in Guatemala.
