Local skippers know the quieter reef patches where you can snorkel away from the crowds. Respect the wildlife (no touching) and bring reef-safe sunscreen.

The way coral-stone Swahili houses, carved doors and donkey traffic open right onto soft beach is uniquely Lamu: you can sit on a rooftop at dusk and watch dhows returning, children playing on the sand, and lanterns coming to life. It’s social and unhurried in a way you won’t find at cookie-cutter resorts.
- Night sky sails, bioluminescence and seasonal turtle-nesting walks — Night (seasonal). Lamu’s remoteness gives you excellent dark skies from a dhow or the sand—stargazing is superb. On certain nights you may spot bioluminescent ripples or join guided, low-impact turtle-nesting or hatchling watches in season. These are fragile activities: go with a guide, keep lamps dim, and let the experience stay wild.
