That evening we were wandering around town to find some restaurant. As both our intestinal systems had been put to the test before, we tried to go for a safe option, not an easy task in Manja where meat was displayed in the outdoor markets the entire day at 35°C. Till we found a shop with instant noodles and a staircase leading to the roof of the shop. 1+1=2 so we asked the owner if he could prepare the instant noodles and serve it on his rooftop, turning his little shop into a one-day restaurant. The owner was amused by this request and went for it. Putting the word “recycling” to the next level, he must have used the dishwashing water for the noodles as there was a very distinctive soap taste dominating our noodle experience. Nevertheless, we loved this experience and while talking with the owner that it would be a great idea to make his rooftop a restaurant, he couldn’t stop thinking about this new opportunity. If anybody ever visits Manja, please let me know if there now is a rooftop restaurant (but skip the instant noodles if they are still on the menu).
