Let’s clear something up: Bain Boeuf beach is not the secret paradise Instagram would have you believe. It’s on the north coast of Mauritius, just east of Grand Baie, and yes, the views of Coin de Mire island are real—but so are the wind and the occasional whiff of seaweed. Backpackers get a clean, quiet stretch of sand with fewer touts than Pereybere, but the swimming is shallow and rocky, and the vibe is more “local picnic” than “castaway fantasy.” No surf, but you can snorkel if you don’t mind a bit of a walk to deeper water.
