On my last day in UB, I was alone again. There was a forty-meter-high statue of Chinggis Khan on his horse nearby. The bus would take me halfway, and then I would have to hitchhike the last twenty kilometers. In the bus, I met a girl in her late twenties who turned out to have built and sold 25 factories already. She was now going to one of her factories under construction to check if her construction workers weren’t sleeping, and she was eager to show it to me. She was taking the bus because her license plate was only allowed to drive in UB on even days. After a tour of her factories and seeing that everyone was working diligently, she helped me get a ride. There must have been good karma on that day because this woman took me to the statue, waited for me to climb it and visit the museum, and then brought me back with a lunch offered along the way. After experiencing both ups and downs in hospitality in Mongolia, she single-handedly elevated the average of Mongolia to absolute world-class level.
