Fortunately, we had a guide with us on our journey. The trek lasted for two weeks, circling the Annapurna Massif. The highlight was supposed to be seeing Annapurna-1 (an 8100-meter-high mountain). After 10 days of hiking, the guide finally pointed out Annapurna-1 to us. We were ecstatic and filled our camera rolls and memory cards until we reached the next village, where we learned that it had been just a random mountain. The map indeed showed that our guide had been a bit too enthusiastic about making us happy.
on the roof (good weather, great views, and tons of legroom) until a 20-year-old Nepalese guy joined me. We had a great chat about everything (he had five girlfriends, which I thought was a lot, but after some probing, it turned out to be a serial, not parallel process). To his amazement, he noticed that I didn‘t have a watch and asked why. I said I didn‘t know why I needed one. So, he asked me if I knew what time it was. Coincidentally, I had just looked at his watch a minute before, so I looked at the sun and the clouds and told him it was 15:38. From then on, he worshiped me as some sort of demigod. Tall, white, hair on my arms, and being able to read the time from clouds and sun. A few minutes later, I had given me his hat and watch, and I struggled to return these gifts at the end of the trip.
