Most blogs forget to mention that Praia dos Galápos can feel less like a beach and more like a natural amphitheater where every sound bounces off the cliffs—great for waves and seabirds, less great when a Bluetooth speaker brigade arrives. You’ll find it in the Arrábida Natural Park, just outside Setúbal, about an hour south of Lisbon. For backpackers, it’s a strong value play: clear, usually calm water that’s perfect for swimming and casual snorkel sessions, clean sand, and that dramatic limestone backdrop you secretly hoped Portugal would deliver. It’s busier than online photos suggest, especially on weekends, and the access road plus parking situation can be mildly soul-destroying.
