Owia Salt Pond has no salt in it. It is a set of seawater swimming pools in black volcanic rock, filled by Atlantic waves that spill over a natural barrier. You’ll find it in the far northeast of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, past Georgetown, on the Atlantic side where the road gets narrow and the villages get quieter. The drive is the first reward: hairpin bends, banana fields and sudden ocean views. Go midweek and mid-morning, when the pools are usually empty and the water is calm. The wow-factor is real, and the photos come easily. Facilities are basic and the sea beyond the pools is rough, so stay inside the rock walls. Still, the pools are free of the touts and tour buses that crowd better-known sites. Unlike the freshwater plunge pools at Dark View Falls, these are salty, sunlit and open to the horizon, so you swim with surf booming a few steps away.
