Fujairah Fort sits on a low hill just inland from the corniche in Fujairah city, on the east coast of the UAE, framed by dusty streets and the Hajar Mountains instead of skyscrapers. For backpackers, the pros are real: usually light crowds, cheap or symbolic entry fee, easy to reach by taxi or on foot from town, and a rare hit of pre-oil history in a country obsessed with newness.
