Bonnaroo sells out of its cheapest ticket tiers early, and the festival lets you camp in the same field you park in, which saves a lot of money on lodging. It sits on a 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee, in the south of the United States, about an hour southeast of Nashville. Expect four days of jam bands, hip-hop, indie and electronic music, mostly with a crowd of 20-somethings and lifelong Deadheads. I asked a vendor selling grilled cheese whether the line was worth it. He said, “Friend, nothing here is quick, but nothing here is bad.” He was right. Buy tickets early, pack more water than seems sensible, and skip the paid shuttles. On day one, pitch your tent, then wander Centeroo before the first set.

Bonnaroo trips go wrong when people arrive late on Thursday and sit in traffic with no plan. I would arrive Wednesday if early entry is offered, set up camp in daylight, and pick three must-see sets per day instead of sprinting between stages.
