Bhutan Itinerary Planner

You set the number of days, pick the kinds of places that interest you, and choose a pace that suits you, and the route follows those choices. Add a start point, an end point or a stop you refuse to skip, such as Punakha Dzong, and the plan is built around it. Slow it down if you want more time in each place, or tighten it if you want to see more.

🙋 FAQFrequently asked questions

Five days covers a short Bhutan trip, with time for a few main sights and little else. Ten days lets you reach more than one valley without rushing, and around 15 days suits a longer trip with hikes and slower stays.
Yes, Bhutan pairs well with India and Nepal, since both border it or sit close by in the Himalayas. Many travelers fly in from Kathmandu, and India’s northeast and the Darjeeling area are the nearest places to add overland.

🗺️ RegionsHow spread out things are

Bhutan is small on the map but slow to cross, and the places you want to see are spread out more than the distances suggest. A visit to Jigme Dorji National Park and a visit to Bumthang Valley are different trips, and trying to fit both into a short stay leaves most of your time on the road. Experienced travelers pick a few areas and stay a while in each, because mountain terrain makes every kilometer take longer than you expect. The planner works the same way. It gathers nearby places together and moves through them in order, so you spend your days at the sites and not going back over ground you have already covered.

⚙️ How it worksHow the Bhutan itinerary planner works

The planner starts with your trip length, your interests and your pace, then turns them into a day-by-day route. First, it groups places that sit close together, because Bhutan’s roads are slow and winding, and a route that doubles back costs you whole days. An experienced traveler plans the same way. Second, it picks one sensible direction through those groups instead of zigzagging, so you move steadily across the country. Third, it sets the time at each stop by its type and by how much is nearby. A town with several sights around it usually becomes a base where you stay longer, and the smaller spots become day trips from it. Thimphu is a good example: with several attractions within easy reach, it gets more nights, while the lesser stops nearby are visited from there without repacking. This is why a route may give a small place one night and a larger one three. The spacing follows the geography.
