- Spitakavor Monastery ruins — A 14th-century hilltop complex carved from pale stone; the contrast between the bleached monastery and the rust-colored canyon makes it instantly photogenic, and its semi-intact facades and niches feel far more intimate than the busier monastery sites.
- Panoramic ridge viewpoint — The trail opens onto sweeping views of Vayots Dzor’s patchwork valleys and distant ridgelines. It’s one of those spots where you can see vineyards, river terraces and empty slopes all at once — great for late-afternoon light and quiet contemplation away from crowded overlooks.
- Red-rock canyon walls and narrow gorges — You hike right alongside dramatic eroded cliffs and layered strata that change color with the sun. Those geological shapes and the tight, echoing gullies are more rugged

- Red-rock canyon walls and narrow gorges — You hike right alongside dramatic eroded cliffs and layered strata that change color with the sun. Those geological shapes and the tight, echoing gullies are more rugged and sculptural than you’d expect for a short monastery trek.
- Khachkars and medieval stone carvings — Scattered around the site are weathered khachkars (cross-stones) and carved lintels with dates and inscriptions. Up close they’re a neat, tangible lesson in Armenian stonework — quieter and less curated than the big heritage parks.
- Wildflowers, shepherd life and soaring raptors — In spring and summer the slopes host carpets of wildflowers; shepherds and grazing flocks still use the high meadows; and it’s common to watch buzzards and other raptors wheel overhead. That living, pastoral vibe makes the hike feel like stepping into everyday rural Armenia rather than a staged tourist route.
