Everyone thinks Pig Beach is some deserted island where you and three pigs share a private sandbar at sunset; in reality, it’s a timed animal encounter with boats lining up like it’s rush hour. Pig Beach sits in the Exumas, near Big Major Cay in the central part of The Bahamas, and for backpackers it’s less “beach day” and more “quick spectacle.” The water is clear and shallow, great for a splash and photos, but not for real swimming laps, surfing, or serious snorkeling, and the sand is… let’s just say pigs are not known for their respect for cleanliness. It’s crowded on most tours, prices are inflated, and you’re locked into boat schedules, but the absurdity of pigs paddling around you is genuinely fun.
