Backpacking in Sitakunda Eco Park
👍 Recommendednational park ranked #12
By Johan Kruseman 🇳🇱 | Updated October 15, 2026

Most blogs sell Sitakunda Eco Park as a gentle family stroll, but if you push past the picnic zones and climb toward the waterfalls and viewpoints, it turns into a sweat-soaked, legit day hike. The park sits in Sitakunda Upazila, just north of Chattogram in southeastern Bangladesh. Trails roll through scrubby forest, red dirt, and concrete steps, with pockets of real quiet once you leave the crowds. It’s short to medium-length, moderate but punishingly humid, and very easy to reach by bus or shared transport from Chattogram. Compared with tougher Bandarban treks, Sitakunda is tamer and more built-up, but far more accessible for a fast, low-commitment hit of hills.

✨ Why go?
Ranked #12 national park in Bangladesh
The unique appeal for travelers

The Sitakunda Eco Park is a backpacker’s playground, where the scenery-to-effort ratio is off the charts. You’ll find lush greenery, winding trails, and the thrill of spotting wildlife without breaking a sweat. Accessible by public transport, it’s a breeze to reach from Chittagong, making it a perfect pit stop on your journey.

The low cost means you can dive into this adventure without emptying your wallet. Choose your own adventure with flexible distances; whether you want a quick jaunt or a full-day trek, it’s all here.

As you climb, the sweat drips, but the payoff is real—breathtaking views that stretch for miles and a sense of accomplishment that’s hard to beat. Afterward, nothing tastes better than a cold beer at a local spot, celebrating the day’s efforts.

💡 HighlightsThe experiences that define the visit

  1. Sitakunda Waterfall — The park’s seasonal cascade is the headline act: after the monsoon it turns into a surprisingly photogenic plunge with shallow pools you can dip into. It’s loud, refreshing and feels wild compared with the manicured city parks nearby.
  2. Chandranath Temple (summit shrine) — A century-old Shiva shrine near the top that mixes quiet pilgrimage energy with great people-watching. The cultural angle — devotees, prayer flags, little roadside stalls — makes the hike feel like more than just scenery.
  3. Hilltop viewpoints — A handful of cleared ridges give sweeping views over Chattogram and the Bay of Bengal. The light at dawn or late afternoon turns the coastal plain into layers of blue and gold — you’ll remember the climb when you look back down.
  4. Evergreen forest and wildlife

  4. Evergreen forest and wildlife — The trail winds through thick, humid hill forest packed with butterflies, songbirds and the odd macaque. For a short hike so near a big city, the diversity of plants, mossy trunks and orchids is unexpectedly lush.
  5. Mossy steps, streams and small sacred pools — The old stone steps, trickling streams and pocket ponds scattered along the route give the place a slightly mysterious, lived-in feel. They’re great spots to rest, snack, and listen to the forest — and they photograph better than you’d expect.
