Kriol Jazz Festival is not a jazz-only event, and it does not take place on a beach resort island: the program mixes morna, funaná, coladeira, Afro-pop and jazz, and it happens in Praia, on Santiago, in Cabo Verde’s capital. Concerts run in the evening on an open-air stage at Praça Alexandre Albuquerque in the Plateau, with free entry to the main shows, a crowd of locals, diaspora visitors and a scattering of backpackers, and a relaxed, dancing-friendly mood.
