- Shell-sand beachcombing — Playa Conchal isn’t ordinary sand: it’s millions of tiny crushed shells, which gives the shore that bright, almost glittery look and a pleasant crunchy sound underfoot. Daytime is best for detail shots and close inspection; at night the beach is quiet and the texture still makes for a surreal moonlit stroll, but there’s not much to “do” after dark except enjoy the silence.
- Snorkeling the rocky point — A short walk from the main stretch drops you into some of the clearest, shallow snorkeling around Guanacaste, where fish congregate around rock formations and you can often spot rays and colorful reef fish without needing a boat. Best during daylight when visibility is top-notch; not a night activity. Personal favorite — nothing beats floating over that small reef

Best during daylight when visibility is top-notch; not a night activity. Personal favorite — nothing beats floating over that small reef and spotting a stingray glide past.
- Paddleboarding or kayaking in the calm bay — The water here is unusually calm and clear for the region, so SUPs and kayaks let you explore without big waves, glide close to fish, or head toward the mangrove-lined channel for birdwatching. Early morning light is prime for wildlife and mirror-like water; after dark you can do a very quiet, moonlit return walk but paddling at night isn’t recommended unless you’re on a guided trip with lights.
- Short coastal hike to the viewpoint — There’s a quick, slightly steep trail up to a small mirador between Conchal and the neighboring beach that rewards you with sweeping views of the turquoise bay and the shell-white sand — excellent for sunset photos or a breath of wind away from the crowd. Great during the day and golden hour; at night it’s a good stargazing spot if you bring a headlamp for the walk back.
- Sunset, stargazing and low-key evening vibes — Playa Conchal isn’t a party beach after dark; it’s the kind of place where sunset becomes the main event, then people spread blankets, listen to waves, and watch stars emerge. Nightlife here is quiet and local — think moonlit walks, listening for crabs, and relaxed beachfront dinners rather than loud clubs.
