Everyone arrives at Banje Beach expecting some wild Adriatic paradise; in reality, it’s the city beach of Dubrovnik, not a castaway cove from a screensaver. It sits just outside the Old Town walls, which is both its curse and its superpower. The view of the walls and Lokrum Island is outrageous, the water usually clear and calm for swimming, but the beach itself is a pebbly, semi-manmade strip that gets rammed by cruise-day crowds and sunbed empires. It’s reasonably clean, easy to reach in flip-flops, and you can grab budget-ish bakery snacks or supermarket beers nearby if you dodge the front-row cocktail bars. No real surf, basic snorkel potential at best, and the vibe swings from chill morning swims to nightclub-with-sea by late afternoon.
