Most online blurbs sell Akamas National Park as an easy coastal stroll; in reality, a lot of it is rough, rocky 4x4 track and exposed ridge, which matters when you’re carrying a pack and two liters of water. Akamas sits on the northwest tip of Cyprus, beyond Paphos and the resort strip, where the asphalt thins out and the scrub takes over. For backpackers, it’s a trade: superb coastal and gorge hiking, sea cliffs, turtles in season, and real quiet once you leave the Baths of Aphrodite circus, in exchange for patchy public transport, brutal midday sun, and limited shade. There’s no formal entrance fee, but you’ll pay for boat shuttles or jeep lifts if you don’t want long out‑and‑backs.
