- Summit crater rim and panoramic lookout — The payoff: a nearly 360° view from the crater lip across the Gulf of Fonseca, the port of La Unión and the distant silhouettes of Nicaragua and Honduras. On a clear day you can pick out the little volcanic islands scattered in the bay.

- Birdwatching and marine birdlife — The position above the Gulf makes the park a good spot to see seabirds (frigatebirds, pelicans, herons) and raptors riding the thermals—especially active at dawn and dusk.
- Volcanic geology and rock formations — The crater, old lava flows and jagged volcanic rock are interesting up close. Even without recent eruptions, the jagged slopes and exposed basalt tell the story of the volcano’s past activity.
