Most blogs sell Playa Las Flores as some untouched surf Eden, but here’s the twist: for a “famous” wave, the actual beach scene is surprisingly low-key and a bit rough around the edges, more functional surf village than postcard paradise. It sits on El Salvador’s eastern coast near El Cuco, a solid detour from the usual La Libertad circuit. For backpackers, it’s a trade: you get powerful right-hand point breaks, a mellow, surf-obsessed vibe, and a few genuinely affordable hospedajes and comedores, but the sand isn’t pristine, swimming can be sketchy with currents, and the small bay can feel cramped when a swell and a surf camp coincide. Compared with El Tunco or El Zonte, Las Flores is quieter, less party, more dawn-patrol. Versus El Cuco, it’s cleaner and more focused on surf, but still not a great call for snorkeling or diving.
