Goose Green has no hotel, and the settlement is built around a working sheep farm, so most visitors arrive as day trippers from Stanley. It sits on a narrow isthmus in the south of East Falkland, in the Falkland Islands, beside Darwin. The road from Stanley is mostly gravel, which is why hire cars with spare tires or a guided tour are the usual answer; experienced travelers book a farm self-catering cottage or a room at nearby Darwin House and stay a night rather than rushing out and back. The draw is the 1982 battlefield, the quiet shoreline and the penguins and shorebirds nearby. The downsides are real: weather is changeable, services are thin, and evenings are very quiet, with meals mostly cooked in your own kitchen or arranged in advance. Meeting other travelers happens at shared tables or on tours. Unlike Darwin, which has the lodge and the settlement’s main accommodation, Goose Green is the larger, more working-farm place.
