Today it’s tidier, better signed, and gently on the map, but still slow and residential rather than a big “sight.” For backpackers it works as a calm overnight stop between Vaasa and Oulu, or a base for coastal walks and bike rides, not a long-stay hub. The core is compact and walkable from the train and bus station; you’ll smell wood smoke in winter, sea air and tarred timber in summer.
