- Bird migration and salt-marsh observation — Amrum is a magnet for migrating shorebirds and waders; the mix of shallow water, sandbanks and marsh means spectacular flocks at high- and low-tide. Bring binoculars, and plan dawn or dusk watches for the best action — you’ll see behavior and species that don’t appear on typical tourist beaches.
- Wind sports on the flat sand — Because the beach is so wide and the winds are dependable, it’s a favorite for kitesurfing, windsurfing and even kite-buggying — plenty of room to practice long runs without frantic crowds. Sunset sessions are gorgeous; avoid night riding for safety, but the wind-and-sunset combo makes late-afternoon lessons particularly rewarding.
