- Prasonisi (southern cape) — The sandbar that connects the tip of Rhodes creates two very different seas in one place and is a magnet for windsurfers and kitesurfers. The landscape is raw and changeable; when the tide’s right you can walk the sandspit and watch both wind and flat-water surfers share the scene.
- Valley of the Butterflies (Petaloudes) — A cool, shaded gorge where thousands of perfume-loving moths gather in summer — a strange, quiet natural spectacle. Stick to the boardwalk, go in the morning, and enjoy the woods and small waterfalls that feel a world away from the beaches.
- Ancient Kamiros (hidden gem) — Ruins of a well-laid Hellenistic city perched above the sea, with clear street grids, house foundations and a peaceful outlook. Fewer crowds than Lindos or the Old Town, and the coastal views at sunset are startlingly calm.
- Monolithos Castle (hidden gem) — A ruined medieval fortress clinging to a volcanic rock on the west coast; the hike up is short and raw, and the panorama — cliffs, sea and tiny villages — is seriously dramatic. Great spot for solitude and sunset photos without crowds.
- Seven Springs (Epta Piges) — A cool woodland enclave with a shaded trail, a narrow tunnel you can walk through and a small lake fed by springs — perfect if you’re overheating after beach days. It’s a simple, refreshing nature escape and locals picnic here in the late afternoon.
- Embonas village & Rhodes wine route (hidden gem) — The island’s wine country: mountain tavernas, family-run wineries and cheap, honest bottles made from local grapes. Visit during harvest or for a relaxed tasting and some grilled meat in a village square to see real island life.
- Filerimos Hill & monastery trail — A gentle hill near Ialyssos with ancient acropolis remains, cypress-lined paths and a long “Way of the Cross” with views across the island. It’s a compact cultural climb — the views, the olive groves and the peaceful walk make it feel distinctly Rhodes rather than generic Greek scenery.
