Ten years ago Rebel Salute felt like a roots pilgrim camp: mostly Jamaicans, clouds of ital food smoke, elders in crochet tams lecturing you about Peter Tosh between sets. Today it’s bigger, slicker, and more curated, but the core is still there—strictly conscious reggae and dancehall, no alcohol, no slackness, and a crowd that actually listens. The festival runs over two long, stamina-testing nights in January at Grizzly’s Plantation Cove near Priory, on Jamaica’s north coast between Ocho Rios and Runaway Bay. You get live bands, veteran singers, rising roots artists, and the occasional surprise legend at 4 a.m. The vibe is part family reunion, part marathon night vigil.
