- Mount Akbet — The park’s highest summit and the classic viewpoint: a short but steep hike that rewards you with sweeping panoramas of glittering lakes and serrated granite ridges. Great for sunrise or to orient yourself for longer treks.
- Zhasybay Lake — The most visited lake for a reason: clear water, small sandy beaches and easy access from the park’s main camps. Perfect for a lazy swim, picnic or watching the light hit the granite outcrops in the evening.

- Forest-steppe plateaus — Pine and birch groves interspersed with meadows make the park surprisingly shady and fragrant. The contrast between wooded plateaus and open steppe is one of Bayanaul’s quiet charms for easy walks and overnight campsites.
- Wildlife and birding — Keep an eye out for marmots, hares and a variety of raptors; the lakes attract waterbirds. Wildlife encounters aren’t dramatic but they’re frequent enough to make morning and evening walks worthwhile.
- Ridge and loop hiking trails — A network of day hikes and multi-day routes runs along ridgelines and between lakes. Trails vary from mellow loops to steeper ridge scrambles, so you can plan anything from a casual half-day walk to a full day of trekking and bivi.
- Lake sunsets and photo spots — The low sun on granite and water produces some of the park’s best colours. Plan to be at a lakeshore or a high viewpoint an hour before sunset — the light transforms the landscape and is worth the wait.
