- Elsa’s Kopje — The spot made famous by Joy and George Adamson and their lioness Elsa. It’s a compact rocky outcrop that gives great views across the park and a real sense of history; you can often spot big cats or hear them at night from here.
- Tana River and riverine forest — A lush ribbon of green cutting through dry country. Hippo and crocodile pools, noisy fish eagles, kingfishers and a huge variety of waterbirds concentrate here, so it’s the best place for close wildlife-and-bird watching.
- Seasonal wetlands and shallow lakes — Meru’s marshes and shallow alkaline pans turn into fantastic birding grounds in the right season. Expect waders, herons and other waterbirds feeding in the shallows; it’s also a photographer’s dream at dawn.
- Open plains and acacia woodlands — Wide, uncrowded

- Open plains and acacia woodlands — Wide, uncrowded savanna where elephants, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and herds of antelope graze. The landscape is classic East African safari—except without the busloads—so sightings feel more private and relaxed.
- Guided walking safaris and short hikes — Meru is one of the parks where walking with a guide is encouraged. Trails along riverbanks and up gentle kopjes give intimate looks at tracks, birds, plants and smaller wildlife you’d miss from a vehicle.
- Conservation story and rhino protection areas — The park is known for active conservation work and species reintroductions. Visiting feels like supporting a place that’s important for long-term wildlife recovery, and you’ll often hear about projects from guides who work with the reserves.
