Most people online sell Brezovica as a ski resort and forget to mention that, in summer, the same slopes turn into one of Kosovo’s easiest high-altitude playgrounds for backpackers. Brezovica sits in the Sharr Mountains in southern Kosovo, above the town of Štrpce, close to the North Macedonian border. The classic Brezovica hike climbs from the shabby ski hotels up old service roads and sheep tracks to broad ridgelines with big, open views toward Ljuboten and deeper into the Sharr range. It’s moderate rather than brutal, a half‑day to full‑day outing depending how far you push the ridge, and you feel the altitude but not in a punishing way. Buses and shared taxis to Štrpce make access decent, then you hitch or walk up. Compared with Rugova’s more dramatic canyons, Brezovica feels rougher, emptier, and more DIY—in a good way.
