- Brezovica and the alpine meadows — the park’s main access hub. In winter it’s a low-cost ski base; in summer the lifts and tracks turn into easy starting points for hikes across wildflower-filled high pastures (great for overnight bivvies and cheap mountain food stalls).
- Ljuboten Peak — a jagged, pyramidal summit on the Kosovo-North Macedonia border. It’s a short but steep hike from nearby trailheads and rewards you with panoramic views of the Šar ridgeline and deep glacial valleys—one of the most photogenic spots in the park.
- Scattered glacial lakes and tarns — little mirror-like lakes tucked into bowls below the ridges. They make for effortless wild-camping and sunrise shots, and the water is stunningly clear. Not a single “big attraction” but a chain of peaceful spots worth hopping

- Wildlife corridors — bears, wolves, chamois and birds of prey — the Šar Mountains are prime habitat for big Balkan fauna. Sightings are rare (that’s part of the thrill), but you can expect tracks, distant calls and excellent birdwatching—golden eagles included. The Balkan lynx is possible here, but extremely elusive.
- Traditional shepherd pastures and stone katuns — seasonal huts and grazing lands still shape the landscape. Hike the livestock trails to meet shepherds, taste fresh cheese, and see how people have used these highlands for centuries. Charming, simple, and very photogenic.
- Lush beech and chestnut forests (Prizren/Lumbardh area) — lower-elevation walks through shady, chestnut-lined valleys near Prizren. Easy, scenic, and a nice contrast to the bare high ridges—great for relaxed day hikes and autumn color.
- Ridge walks and multi-day routes — long, exposed ridgelines give classic alpine hiking: sweeping views, rocky cols, and the option to link several peaks into a two- or three-day trek. Plan water and campsites, but the scenery makes the extra effort worth it.
