Most people hear “lake circuit in Luxembourg” and picture a flat, lazy stroll. Upper Sûre Lake Circuit makes you earn your views. It loops around the reservoir in the Upper Sûre Nature Park, out in the country west of Ettelbruck, where the hills actually bite back a little. The trail rolls hard: short, punchy climbs, forest singletrack, and balcony paths that suddenly spit you out onto wide water views and quiet coves. It’s long enough to feel like a full day out, and the constant up‑and‑down can surprise anyone expecting a canal path. Getting there by bus is doable but not instant; connections work, they’re just slower than the trailhead-by-train ease of Mullerthal. Compared to those rock formations and gorge paths, Upper Sûre feels wilder, more about rhythm and distance than spectacle—and that’s exactly why I like it.
