Most people only realize after they leave that Majjistral is one of the few places in Malta where you can spend almost a full day outdoors without spending much money. It sits on the northwest coast of Malta, just beyond Golden Bay and Għajn Tuffieħa, running along the cliffs toward Anchor Bay. For backpackers, it’s a low-frills, high-payoff coastal park: good cliff-top and coastal trails, raw limestone scenery, sea views, and enough scrub and birdlife to feel semi-wild by Maltese standards. Access is easy by bus plus a short walk, entrance is free, and crowds thin out fast once you leave the main bays, but there’s no shade, little water, and almost no facilities, so you need to bring everything. Wild camping is not allowed and nearby budget beds are limited to hostels and cheap guesthouses around Mellieħa or St. Paul’s Bay.
