- Floating gardens and leg-rowing fishermen — The single most iconic sight: longboats gliding through narrow channels, farmers tending beds of tomatoes and vegetables on man-made floating islands, and the unique one-legged rowing technique of the Intha people. Perfect for photography at golden hour and a crash course in how people live on the water.
- Stilt villages (Ywama, Inn Paw Khone) — Clusters of wooden houses built on stilts over the lake with plank walkways and water-gate lanes. You’ll see boat workshops, markets on piers and daily life literally above the water — it’s less about a single landmark and more about the whole, slightly surreal atmosphere.

- Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda — The most important religious site on the lake: several tiny, heavily gilded Buddha images carried around the lake during the festival. The pagoda itself is a focal point of local devotion and a lively place to watch Burmese ritual and colorful ceremonial boats in season.
- Indein pagoda cluster — A mossy, slightly overgrown hillside full of ancient stupas and narrow paths; wandering here feels like exploring a forgotten city. The climb and the surrounding villageviews make it a wonderful late-afternoon stop for quieter photos and a peaceful sunset. (Personal favorite — the mood and light here are unbeatable.)
- Red lotus blooms (seasonal) — From roughly December to February parts of the lake turn into fields of pink/red lotus. Boat trips into the bloom fields are magical and very different from the everyday scenes — go early to beat the crowds and catch the light on the petals.
- Birdlife and endemic freshwater species — The lake supports lots of waterbirds (egrets, herons, kingfishers and other wetland species) and unique aquatic life, including fish species found only in Inle. Birdwatchers and wildlife fans will enjoy quiet morning cruises and watching local fishermen cast nets in scudding mist.
- Short hikes and viewpoints around the lake — The surrounding Shan hills are low but rewarding: short walks through tea and vegetable terraces, viewpoints that open onto the lake at sunrise, and places like the Red Mountain area for a short vineyard walk and clear panoramas. These treks break up the boat time and give a very different perspective of the lake.
