- Desert Wildlife, Raptors and Night Skies — Keep your eyes peeled for klipspringer, oryx, dassies (rock hyrax) and hunting raptors riding the thermals off the cliffs; encounters are quiet and memorable. When the sun sets the canyon becomes a dark-sky paradise — the Milky Way explodes above the rim and there’s a solitude and silence you won’t find on popular, busier trails.
