- Samjiyon Valley and highland lakes: The approaches and lower slopes open into wide valleys with smaller lakes, grassy meadows and scattered boulders — great for relaxed walks, picnics, and seeing how the landscape shifts from dense forest to open alpine terrain.
- Geothermal spots and hot springs: You’ll find fumaroles and hot springs on the flanks of the mountain — pockets of steam, mineral deposits and sulfur-scented ground that remind you this is an active volcano, even when the summit seems tranquil.
- Alpine flora and birdlife: In summer the slopes fill with rhododendrons, dwarf pines and alpine wildflowers; birds of prey and migratory species patrol the ridges. It’s not a zoo, but the plant communities and bird activity give the mountain a fragile, high-altitude ecosystem vibe.
- Seasonal contrasts and ice features: Depending on the time of year you can see lingering ice patches, early-season snowfields, or late-summer blooms — the mountain transforms so much over months that each visit feels like a different place.
