Everyone on Instagram seems convinced Qantab Beach is some empty, secret cove where you’ll have the Arabian Sea to yourself; in reality, it’s a working fishing village’s backyard with tourists wandering through. Qantab sits just southeast of Muscat, tucked into the craggy coastline past Al Bustan, and it’s one of the easiest “wild-ish” beaches you can hit without a car-based expedition. For backpackers, it’s a trade-off: the scenery is dramatic, the water usually calm enough for a solid swim, and boatmen can run you to sea caves and decent snorkel spots, but the sand isn’t spotless and fishing debris kills the postcard fantasy.
