A decade ago, Al Janadriyah felt raw and almost chaotic: dust under your boots, oud music drifting from tents, poets arguing over tiny cups of cardamom coffee, and families picnicking under bare bulbs. Today it’s bigger, cleaner, more controlled, and noticeably more commercial, but it still throws you straight into Saudi culture at full volume. The festival sits just northeast of Riyadh, out in Al Janadriyah village, and pulls huge crowds of Saudi families, school groups, and regional visitors rather than classic backpackers. Expect folk music, sword dances, camel shows, heritage villages, and a heavy “national identity” theme, with plenty of food stalls and crafts. It usually runs for around two weeks once a year.
