Most people only realize on the bus ride out that Ravna Gora is where you could’ve had a proper “Serbia reset” for half the price of Zlatibor and without the circus. Ravna Gora sits in western Serbia, in the hilly belt between Čačak and Užice, a quick detour off the main Belgrade–Montenegro route. For backpackers, it’s low-key gold: pine forests, rolling meadows, WWII history, and farmsteads that still feel like you’ve walked into someone’s real life, not a stage set. Beds, food, and rakija are cheap, and hiking is basically free, but buses are infrequent and you’ll do some awkward hitchhiking or long waits at roadside cafés.
