Backpacking in Mount Faber Park
👌 Worth visitingnational park ranked #12
By Johan Kruseman 🇳🇱 | Updated September 4, 2026

A lot of people arrive at Mount Faber Park expecting a wild, big-mountain hike; it’s really a compact urban hill with polished viewpoints, not a backcountry escape. It sits on the southern side of Singapore, above HarbourFront and the cable car line to Sentosa. For backpackers, it’s a quick, low-effort green fix: short, stepped trails, city-and-harbour views, some birds and monkeys, easy MRT/bus access, and no entrance fee. It’s busy on weekends and feels more like a landscaped lookout than a national park, with zero camping or true budget stays on-site. Compared with MacRitchie or Bukit Timah, Mount Faber is lighter on wildlife and trail mileage, but heavier on convenience and skyline drama.

  • Telok Blangah Hill Park link: The pleasant trails that join Mount Faber to Telok Blangah Hill Park reward you with peaceful paths, leafy picnic spots, and quieter lookout points away from the main crowds.
  • Wildlife and birdwatching: Expect long-tailed macaques (watch your snacks), monitor lizards, butterflies and a surprising variety of city-tolerant birds—bring binoculars if you enjoy slow wildlife-spotting.
  • Sunset & night skyline views: Mount Faber’s elevation makes it one of the fastest, most reliable places in Singapore for a dramatic sunset and then a clean view of the lit-up skyline—short walk, big payoff.

  • Price Fluctuations: Entry to Mount Faber Park is free, but nearby attractions and cable car rides may have peak-season surcharges during major holidays.

Pro-tip: Aim for weekday mornings between February and April to dodge rain, crowds, and heat—saving your energy for the views, not the sweat.
