Most blogs sell Qixingtan as a “beach day,” but the surprising truth is this: for backpackers, it’s closer to a scenic cliffside viewpoint that happens to have pebbles and waves you probably shouldn’t swim in. Qixingtan sits just north of Hualien City on Taiwan’s east coast, basically where the city gives up and the Pacific takes over.

You come here for the big-sky drama: clean arc of stone beach, turquoise water, mountains punching straight out of the coastline.
