- Tugai (riparian) forest corridors — The real heart of Tigrovaya Balka: dense, shady tugai strips of poplar, willow and tamarisk running along the river. They feel unexpectedly primeval in a dry region and are great for quiet wildlife watching and photography.
- River floodplain and oxbow lakes — Meandering channels, reed beds and cut-off lakes formed by the Vakhsh/Amu Darya system. These wetland mosaics are where most of the action happens: feeding birds, beavers (signs) and dramatic light at dawn and dusk.
- Migratory and resident birdlife — A stopover for migrants and a stronghold for waterbirds and raptors: herons, egrets, ducks and various birds of prey. If you like binoculars, this reserve rewards patience with lots of species and close views along the reed margins.

- Quiet hiking and boat routes — Trails are low-key and the best way to experience the reserve is on short riverside hikes or a guided boat trip along the channels. It’s never crowded, so you get a proper wilderness feel without long, hard climbs.
- Historical “Tiger” legacy — The name Tigrovaya Balka (Tiger Gully) is a reminder that Caspian tigers once moved through these tugai forests. You won’t see tigers today, but the reserve’s role in protecting a rare Central Asian ecosystem is historically and ecologically important.
