- Primeval beech and fir forests — dense, shady old-growth stands that feel like stepping into another world: mossy trunks, thick leaf litter, and long quiet trails. These forests are the park’s soul and my personal favorite for easy wandering and fall color photos.
- Deep river valleys and limestone gorges — steep-sided valleys carved by fast mountain rivers. Look for dramatic viewpoints above the ravines and narrow paths that thread along the cliffs for great panorama shots.
- Karst caves and sinkhole formations — the park’s limestone geology creates caves and collapsed dolines. Some are small showcaves, others are wild and require a guide; either way they add a spooky, underground contrast to the upland forests.
- Clear waterfalls and mountain streams — a series of cascades and plunge pools

- Clear waterfalls and mountain streams — a series of cascades and plunge pools tucked into side valleys. Perfect pitstops on hikes to cool off, picnic, or just listen to water instead of people.
- Wildlife and birdwatching hotspots — expect a quiet, rich fauna: lots of woodland birds (including birds of prey), woodpeckers and small mammals. Larger species like wild boar and signs of large carnivores are present; dawn or dusk are the best times to watch.
- Ridge walks and multi-day hiking routes — trails that follow the range’s ridgelines offer sweeping views toward the Black Sea on clear days. Routes vary from short day hikes to rougher multi-day treks; navigation can be rustic, so plan accordingly.
- Traditional mountain villages and local culture — small villages with wooden architecture and agro-pastoral life sit on the park’s edges. They make pleasant bases, offer simple home-cooked food, and give a human scale to the landscape.
