- Float and swim in the turquoise, silica-white shallows — The water is absurdly clear and the shoreline is made of soft, silica-rich sand that makes the color pop like a mini Maldives; excellent for relaxing swims and super photogenic wading.
- Walk the “lunar” white rim and inspect the microbialite formations — The bright, chalky shore and carbonate formations look otherworldly; you can get close to shallow microbialite structures that give the place its Mars-like vibe (and great macro photos).
- Hike the lake rim for panoramic viewpoints — Short, easy trails up to the rim give sweeping views of the whole crater-like basin and the color gradations of the water—best for orientation and quick cardio with a payoff.
- Snorkel/ explore near the springs and shallow pools — Pockets around the shore

- Snorkel/ explore near the springs and shallow pools — Pockets around the shore have different textures and colors because of underwater springs and mineral deposits; small-scale exploring reveals interesting rock and sediment patterns you won’t find on a regular sandy beach.
- Dawn or sunset on the white beach — The low angle light on the white sand and turquoise water turns everything pastel and cinematic; fewer people, cooler temps, and perfect for slow photos or a quiet picnic.
- Stargazing and Milky Way photography (personal favorite) — Low light pollution and the reflective white sand give spectacular night skies and dramatic Milky Way shots; bring a tripod and warm layers—this is the moment the place feels truly lunar.
- Moonlit shoreline walks — The moonlight on the silica shore makes the water glow softly and the whole landscape takes on a surreal, silvered quality—great for slow, peaceful strolls.
- Night photography of reflections and long exposures — The contrast between dark sky and pale beach is perfect for long-exposure compositions: stars reflected in still patches of water, silhouette rims, and glowing sand.
- Listen for nocturnal wildlife / quiet night birdwatching — At dusk and into the night you can hear and sometimes spot waterfowl and other creatures in a much calmer lakeside setting—bring a headlamp with a red filter to avoid disturbing them.
- Late-evening swim or soak under the stars (check local rules) — If permitted where you are, a slow swim by starlight is unforgettable; but regulations and conservation measures sometimes restrict after-dark access, so confirm before you go.
