Backpacking in Pırlanta Beach
👌 Worth visitingbeach ranked #10
By Johan Kruseman 🇳🇱 | Updated October 15, 2026

Everyone on Instagram seems convinced Pırlanta Beach is some secret Maldives of the Aegean; it’s not. It’s a long, sandy, wind-whipped stretch just outside Çeşme on Türkiye’s west coast, and it’s very much on the map. For backpackers, it’s a trade: cleaner and more open than cramped Ilıca, but with more kitesurf bros and beach clubs than raw wilderness. The water is shallow, choppy, great for splashing and boards, mediocre for calm swims or snorkeling. On windy days, sand gets everywhere; on calm days, families and day-trippers crowd in. Access is easy by dolmuş or hitching, and you’ll find budget gözleme stalls and simple pansiyons, but for real drama and fewer speakers blaring pop, I’d still pick the wilder coves toward Alaçatı.

✨ Why go?
Ranked #10 beach in Türkiye
The unique appeal for travelers

Pırlanta Beach in Türkiye is one of those spots that backpackers actually stop at, and for good reason. First off, the laid-back atmosphere makes it a perfect pit stop. You can kick back with a cold drink, swap stories with fellow travelers, and soak in the sun without feeling like you’re in a tourist zoo.

It’s also affordable—no need to break the bank for a sunbed or a snack. The social scene is vibrant, with people from all walks of life mingling over beach volleyball or a shared meal.

Plus, the water access is a game-changer. It’s not just about swimming; it’s a refreshing break on a longer coastal trek. Think of it as a connector in your journey, where you can recharge before diving back into the adventure.

💡 HighlightsMust-see experiences and standout moments

  • Snorkeling the glassy shallows — The water here really does look like someone polished it; visibility is excellent and the rocky seabed hosts small fish, crabs and colorful algae that make every 10-15 minute swim feel like a tiny discovery. Bring fins and a mask — you’ll cover more ground and see the best spots tucked beside the rocks. (Personal favorite.)
  • Relaxing on the smooth pebble shore — Unlike soft sand, Pırlanta’s white pebbles warm up and cradle you; they’re oddly comfy once you use a thin mat or towel. The way sunlight fractures on the stones and water gives the whole beach its “diamond” look, so it’s perfect for lounging with a book or a long, slow nap.

  • Short cliff walk to the western headland (sunset viewpoint) — A five to twenty-minute scramble, depending how far you wander, leads to sharp panoramas of the bay and neighboring coves. It’s where photographers and daydreamers go; sunset here is intense because the cliffs catch the light and throw it back into the sea. At night the same spot is a quiet, low-light stargazing perch if the sky’s clear.
  • Boat hopping into hidden coves and tiny sea caves — Small local boats (day rentals or shared trips) can tuck into coves that the shore can’t reach. These micro-bays have calm water for swimming and sometimes little sandy patches you get nearly to yourself. It’s the best way to see how varied the coastline around Pırlanta really is.
  • Evening shoreline food and moonlit swims — After the day-trippers leave the vibe mellows: simple seafood places on the strip, string lights, and barefoot dinners by the water. If the moon is up, a warm, shallow swim under moonlight is a quiet, almost cinematic way to end the day — low-key and local, not clubby.

Then there’s Kemer, a bit more bustling but still friendly. You’ll find plenty of hostels that cater to solo adventurers. The nightlife here can be a riot, so if you’re looking to dance off that beach day, this is your spot.

Avoid the overly touristy areas; they’re like that friend who always wants to go to the same restaurant. Stick to these neighborhoods for a genuine experience, where the only thing inflated is your sense of adventure.

🛡️ SafetyStaying Safe: What Travelers Should Know

Pırlanta Beach is generally a safe haven for sun-seekers and swimmers alike. The water is usually calm, but keep an eye out for the occasional rip current—locals know where to swim, so follow their lead. The tides can shift, especially in the afternoon, so don’t be surprised if the waves pick up a bit.

As for marine life, jellyfish can pop up, but they’re not a constant threat. Just check in with locals about any recent sightings. Sun exposure is real; slather on that sunscreen and consider a hat. Theft isn’t rampant, but keep your valuables close. Enjoy the grind of beach life, and remember: the best moments often come when you’re just a little bit uncomfortable.

We 💚 feedbackParting advice and final tips

Pırlanta Beach is a slice of paradise, with crystal-clear waters that practically beg you to dive in. But let’s be real: the access can feel like a scavenger hunt. You’ll navigate some questionable roads and possibly a few locals who think GPS is a myth. Worth it? Absolutely. Just pack your patience along with that sunscreen.

✈️ When did I visit Türkiye?
In May 2017 I was backpacking through Turkey from the South, making it up north along the coast, ending in Istanbul.
