- Murchison Falls (the Falls themselves) — The river is forced through a 7-metre gap and explodes into thundering spray and a dramatic gorge; it’s raw, loud, and photogenic in a way few waterfalls are. Close enough to feel the mist on your face, and impossible to forget.
- Boat cruise to the base of the Falls — A classic: hippos and crocodiles loafing on the banks, huge numbers of waterbirds, and that jaw-dropping approach to the waterfall’s mouth. Personal favorite — nothing beats drifting along the Nile as the falls roar closer and the river banks fill with wildlife.
- Top of the Falls viewpoint and short hike — A short but steep walk onto cliffs that look straight down into the churning throat of the falls; great for dramatic photos, rainbows and that sprayed-in-your-hair feeling. Walk early

- Albert Nile delta and birdwatching — Marshes and channels near the delta are prime for birds, including chances for elusive species like the shoebill; boat trips here are quiet and wildlife-packed. If you’re into birds, plan a slow morning with binoculars.
- Kaniyo Pabidi / Budongo Forest (chimp trekking & forest walks) — Dense mahogany forest with habituated chimp groups, loud primate activity and excellent forest birding. The mood shifts from open savannah to humid, green jungle — a totally different Murchison vibe.
- Savannah game drives (Buligi and northern sectors) — Wide grasslands where you’ll find elephants, lions, giraffes and big herds of Uganda kob; drives at dawn and dusk are best for action. Roads can be rough, so a 4x4 and a patient driver make a big difference.
- Sunset on the Victoria Nile — Simple but magical: golden light across the river, hippos surfacing, and silhouettes of papyrus and acacia. Great way to wind down after a day of hiking or driving — bring a thermos or a cheap cerveza.
