Rolex Festival began as a few street-side egg-and-chapati stalls feeding boda riders. Now it is a full-blown celebration of Uganda’s favorite snack, with cooking contests, music and crowds spilling across a Kampala venue. You’ll find Rolex Festival in Uganda’s capital, Kampala, set around the city’s central and Kololo-side event grounds, usually as a one-day party. Expect street-food energy, live Afrobeat and kadongo kamu sets, and a crowd of locals, students and curious backpackers. Entry is cheap, the food is the star, and you can eat your way through it in an afternoon. I took a boda from Wandegeya, and my driver detoured to a roadside stall for a pre-festival rolex, insisting I judge it against the festival versions. Bring small cash in shillings for stalls, because card readers fail and queues move fast.
