- Sviatohirsk Holy Mountains (the cave monastery) — the monastery is literally carved into the hillside, with cave cells and onion-domed churches perched over the river. It’s where history and nature meet: great light for photos, quiet viewpoints, and a real sense of place rather than a manicured tourist site.
- Seversky Donets river canyon and sandy beaches — the park’s backbone, a meandering river with clear stretches, little islands and wide beaches perfect for a lazy swim or an evening camp. Paddle, wade, or just sit on a rock and watch the light change on the cliffs.
- Chalk (limestone) cliffs and panoramic overlooks — dramatic white cliffs drop to the river and carve out raw, photogenic angles you don’t get in every Ukrainian forest. Short hikes to the viewpoints are worthwhile at sunrise

- Pine and mixed-forest trails — long, shady tracks through pine stands and old oak groves; cool in summer, rich in mushrooms and berries in season. These trails are ideal for a half-day wander without crowds.
- Steppe slopes and wildflower meadows — open, sunny hillsides that bloom in spring and host a surprising variety of steppe plants and pollinators. Nice contrast after the forested canyon—bring sunscreen and a picnic.
- Small caves and karst features — beyond the monastery caves there are natural rock shelters and hollowed limestone pockets to poke around (use caution). They add geological interest and a bit of low-effort scrambling for curious hikers.
- Birdwatching and wildlife patches — the river+forest+steppe mix attracts waterbirds, kingfishers and raptors, plus deer, foxes and lots of amphibians and fish. Best times are spring migration and late summer mornings; keep binoculars handy and ears open.
